Halachic Pathway
Metropolitan Jewish Hospice (Hospice) offers a unique way of caring for our Orthodox Jewish patients by addressing their individual, religious and spiritual needs. We recognize that these patients look to Halacha (Jewish law) and tradition for guidance and answers. Which is why Hospice prides itself on being one of only a few hospice programs in New York that operates within Halachic guidelines. Through this program, communication regarding medical decision making is facilitated among the patient, physician and rabbi.
Hospice is a service with a philosophy of care that values the quality of a patient’s life and comfort above all else. A team of professionals, including doctors, nurses, social workers, therapists (physical, occupational, speech), rabbis, volunteers and others come together to support the patient and family in the final stages of life, when options for curative care have been exhausted.
